Illustration, books and collaborative publications
I create visual responses to stories, poems, books and research projects. The work often moves through memory, displacement, place, witness and the meeting point between private experience and shared history.
I work best when collaboration begins with clarity, kindness and mutual respect. My images are visual responses to a text, story or project, not simply decoration. Before beginning, it helps to agree the purpose, audience, number of images, timescale, budget, credit and intended use. I usually work through an initial visual proposal, one main revision stage, and a final minor adjustment if needed. Feedback is most useful when it is clear and specific, and placed beside the image rather than drawn over it, unless we have agreed otherwise.
A small selection of book, poetry, magazine and advocacy related illustration projects.
